The 66 Bender is based on the Sola Sound’s second Tone Bender version, commonly known as MK1.5. It was a transitional two germanium transistors design which Sola Sound produced only briefly between the MKI and the MKII Professional in early 1966. Its design was the genesis of the Arbiter Fuzz Face and the Vox Tone Bender.
The 66 Bender replicates the same Tone Bender MK1.5 circuit, producing the classic fuzz sounds of the sixties. Thanks to its germanium transistors it provides a warm distortion and a clarity rarely found in other fuzz boxes. It is also possible to clean up the signal through the guitar’s volume control which makes it a very versatile fuzz effect.
